If you are looking for planters to use on your patio, deck, sunroom or home; wood or cedar planters are a great way to go. I have found that cedar planters are an amazing natural material that holds up much better than other natural woods. These planters are not only durable, but are truly beautiful as well and you can get them in custom sizes if the 15” x 15” x 15 ¾” is not big enough. I also love the choice of a vertical or diagonal side to mix it up a bit.

These wood planters are heavy enough to stay in one place during most extreme weather and won’t blow away like plastic, chip like concrete, crack like pottery or rust like metal planters eventually will. These wonderful planters can be treated and sealed to maintain their natural look and beauty or painted or stained to match your chosen décor. This gives you the flexibility to use them in just about any outdoor or indoor living space where you want to enjoy your favorite plant and blooms. Bring Your Planter’s Inside

As the days get shorter and the air gets cooler, it is the perfect time to take a good look at those plants that stay outside throughout the spring and summer but winter inside your home. It is easy to miss how much these plants grow during that time. If you’re not careful, they may have outgrown the planter they are currently in and will need to be transplanted before bringing them in for the winter months.

One of the best choices that work for both indoor and outdoor use is cedar wood planters. What makes these planters such a great choice is the fact they are made from Western Red Cedar. This natural wood contains a type of oil that helps repel bugs and water from getting into the wood. With a good coat of sealer this planter will last a long time and continue to look great.

Of course, if you need to transplant one or more plants you will need to get containers that are 1 ½ as big as the current pot along with some good potting soil. It is also good to transplant the plants before you move them in so the shock of their new planter will not be exacerbated by the shock of coming indoors.

The pictures you see of little country cottages, sitting on a lake with their front yards a mass of colorful blooms, almost always have cedar window boxes full of flowers hanging beneath the window sill as well. Although such little cottages are more difficult to find in today’s flurry of housing additions, all with very similar homes throughout, we can still add window boxes and bring color and originality to our environment.

For a minimal cost, cedar window boxes, built to withstand rain, sun and heat, can be installed beneath the windows of almost any style home and fit right in with the other landscaping. Add a few profuse bloomers, some TLC, and water when it doesn’t come naturally, and you have revitalized what might have been an otherwise boring landscape.

The greatest thing about decorating your outdoor space is the way you choose to accent your furniture pieces. Some people like to stay consistent with the type of furniture and accents, i.e. all wood planters with wood furniture. However, it may be fun to mix and match a bit.

Think about mixing natural elements to build the entire space. If you have wrought iron furniture, get some wood and stone elements in the mix whether they are planters, window boxes, candle holders or patio flooring or decking. There is such a variety of options these days to choose from for both garden and patio furniture.

Another growing trend is concrete work. There are some fantastic concrete stains and stamps that can be done to enhance your outdoor space as well as birdbaths and planters that are beautifully done. If you also have a shed, greenhouse, arbor or pergola, think about how to accent these outdoor structures with wind chimes, trellis’, flowers and planters and window boxes.
