Many of us think we need a lot of space in order to garden but that is no longer true. There are many old and new ways to grow some, if not all of, your own food. One of the newer items that comes to mind are the AeroGardens that use hydroponic or water to grow many different types of produce on a year round basis. You can have a herb garden that is full or your favorite herbs for cooking or on salads or a salad garden that is lettuces and cherry tomatoes. They have several different kinds and combination’s for you to chose from.

One of the oldest methods are the use of wooden raised beds. The new twist on these beds are the tiered versions that take up very little space, are free standing and can grow 50 plus plants in a 4 ft x 4 ft space. Some of these gardens have up to 6 tiers and they make wonderful ways for the elderly or handicapped to be able to reach the dirt and plants and have the experience of gardening or just continue to enjoy the gardening experience. You truly can garden wherever you are!

I recently saw an article about a woman who had created multiple outdoor living spaces in her yard and it was fascinating. So much so that I decided, on a much smaller scale, to try my hand at creating a few interesting and inviting places in and among the gardens and landscape of my yard. I placed as an entrance to my front yard rose garden along with a beautiful garden arbor with a climbing trellis on the sides. It was so easy to put together that I wish I had done this a long time ago.

The roses immediately took to the arbor and have filled in the sides with great ease crafting a lovely entrance to the front yard. The design of the metal arbor incorporating the trellis has worked magnificently. I also love the openness of the arch and can’t wait until the roses encompass the canopy in fragrant blooms. I can smell them as I write! I wonder why it took me so long to start finding ways to make my yard truly mine. This incredible natural cedar arbor is perfect as it has the look and feel that I want my front yard to project.

Since I have planted a garden for many years now, I go through many tools, outdoor décor and planters. Some are just out grown while others just fall apart over time. One of the best things I have ever invested in is wrought iron trellises. I have about seven of them now and they are all workhorses from the stand alone type to the wall mount type. Most of them are powder coated for further protection from the elements but even the ones that aren’t stand up to the elements great.

I also like them because they are very sturdy and can handle a lot of climbing vines and weight of produce. The last thing you need is a trellis falling over end pulling your plants out of the ground and ruining other plants falling on top of them. I have had several mishaps with plastic and vinyl trellises so I don’t use them for application in the garden anymore. The iron ones can even be used in conjunction with tomatoes that can really grow rather large and be heavy with fruit. I know if they can withstand what I put them through, they can withstand almost anything.

I am just one of many who have happily gone down the isle to say my vows and marry the man I love. Those nuptials were one of the most important things I have ever done and helped shape and put my life on the path I am currently on. Maybe that is why I love the month of June AND weddings! Even after 22 years of marriage I still pick up the wedding planner magazine’s and thumb through it like a school girl. I find some very nice things in those pages but they pale to the memory of my own wedding by the lake in my grandparent’s backyard.

They pulled out all the stops back then to make this day special just for my future husband and me, but the one thing I would not let them do is change the wooden arbor that we were married under. I had loved that arbor since I was a child and every scratch and nick was special to me and I wanted it to be just like I remembered it for the ceremony. Yes it was worn and no longer a solid white but it was also covered with the most spectacular pink and white teacup roses that you have ever seen, and the smell was absolutely divine. I can still close my eyes and go back there to relive that moment every June… it doesn’t get any better than that!

Are you still cramming valuable belongings into already-full closets and spare bedrooms? Why? Perhaps you know a secret I don’t know, but when I store items that way, they never maintain their new appearance or their value. They end up getting squished or bent or dented or folded or crumpled in the bottom of a closet floor, while newer things pile up on top of them. Why not consider an inexpensive plastic shed? Here are a few advantages you might not have considered before:

You aren’t paying to heat or cool your shed, so you could even downsize your home and save money and be a greener planetary citizen as well.

You can access your belongings more efficiently, reducing the stress and clutter in your home.

You will increase the amount of usable space inside your home. Things like having a guest stay with you will no longer be an embarrassment.

So before you shove the picnic supplies back in the overflowing hall closet, think about how a shed could make your life – and your house – better.

If you’ve been looking around at your local hardware stores for inexpensive sheds you have had a hard time finding one. I know because that’s exactly where I started. The optimum for me was a wood shed but once I saw how much they cost, I had to be a little more reasonable and look at other options. What I found that fit my budget was a metal shed by Duramax and the best deal I found was online.

I have really enjoyed having some outdoor storage to utilize for all my garden needs as well as to store some of the seasonal items from the house and garage. I never knew that having a garden shed would free up so much space! It was very easy to put together though I did get my brother to help me. I believe it took about 4 hours or so and it has held up now for three years. I had heard not to get a metal shed but I have nothing but great things to say about this wonderful shed.

It’s the time of year you start making plans for your yard and garden. You may be adding some plants to your flowerbeds or deciding on what to grow this year in your vegetable garden. Whatever plans you are making don’t forget to include a garden arbor. What you may not realize is the trellis sides of most arbors work for tomatoes as much as they work for roses. It doesn’t matter what climbing vine you have; they love arbors!

If you don’t have a place for an arbor or want something a little bit simpler, a heavy duty iron or metal trellis is a great way to go. The heavy trellises tend to stay in place better than the light weight ones which are nice if you live somewhere you may get some storms and windy weather. Since you can get a trellis in many shapes and sizes you can use them all over the yard, flowerbeds or garden. They’re great for any vine vegetable and recommended to get the fruit off of the ground. This makes it easier on you as well since you don’t have to bend over and strain your back! Just a few helpful items that can be moved around and utilized as you need.

Seems that the shed was unusable for storing anything of value because of a water drainage issue, but rather than tear it down when they bought a new vinyl shed, they simply added a few details, and let the kids have it!

Not really wanting to rent space and pay separate utility bills, etc, he got creative and turned an old, unused garden shed into his writer’s nook!

From the sound of it, it’s a tiny space, just big enough for a space heater, a laptop, a lap dog, and a few reference books on a small desk, but with the help of his wife, they were able to fancy it up a bit and make it homey.

I am looking for photos to post up soon. What a clever idea!

What I like about the plastic storage units are the fact that they are virtually maintenance free and never dent or rust like the metal sheds can or need to be sprayed with chemicals to keep pests out like the wooden sheds do. If they ever need cleaning all you have to do is wash them down with a power sprayer about once a year and you are done. These sheds and garages also come with a very good warranty and are easy to assemble. I do recommend you purchase the foundation with them because buildings do better on a formed foundation of some kind. This helps them to maintain their shape and integrity.

They also come in a large array of sizes including garden sheds, utility buildings and large storage/garage combination. On top of this, shipping is also included.
